WORK EXPERIENCES:

  • Shall keep the navigational watch and in port watch
  • During navigation, is under the command of the Master or the Officer of the watch and when in port shall assist the Bosun and carry out deck work
  • Must carry out the following work under the direction and supervision of the Chief Officer, Duty Officer or the Bosun:

1.     Keep watch at sea, steer, and look out.

2.     Raise and lower flags and signals.

3.     Turn on and off the deck illumination lights.

4.     Keep in-port watch, gangway watch and cargo watch.

5.     Clean the bridge, chart room, compass room, and other places.

6.     Other work as instructed by superiors.

7.     Take the soundings of the tanks and the bliges in the holds and enter them on a board and in a notebook.

8.     Carry out the work of taking on, transferring and discharging drinking water and ballast.

9.     Cargo watch and navigational watch.

10.                         Work at stern when entering and leaving harbor.

11.                         Sound tanks and bliges twice a day.

  • Perform other tasks that may be assigned from time to time by the immediate superior.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Performs following tasks on board ship to watch for obstructions in vessel’s path and to maintain equipment and structures.
  • Stands watch at bow or on wing of bridge to look for obstructions in path of vessel.
  • Measures depth of water in shallow or unfamiliar waters, using leadline, and telephones or shouts information to bridge.
  • Turns wheel on bridge or uses emergency steering apparatus to steer vessel as directed by Mate, Ship .
  • Breaks out, rigs, overhauls, and stows cargo-handling gear, stationary rigging, and running gear.
  • Overhauls lifeboats and lifeboat gear and lowers or raises lifeboats with winch or falls.
  • Paints and chips rust on deck or superstructure of ship.
  • May be concerned with only one phase of duties, as maintenance of ship’s gear and decks or watch duties
