Job Title: DP Master 

Company: Belait Shipping Company, Brunei

The initial assignment was as DP Captain on board a DP2 DSV carrying out Diving, chartered to Petronas initially and Brunei Shell thereafter, reporting to the Technical Director of the company. The vessel was equipped with Converteam ‘A’ series DP2 System with DGPS, Cyscan and HPR Position References. Apart from being responsible for the successful operations, I was on an advisory role to the owners and charterers, having to attend the Daily Co-ordination meetings.  I was also responsible to train the Officers on board in Dynamic Positioning. Subsequently I was in command of the new built DP2 MSV, a sister ship of the earlier one, which was on deployment in India West Coast, East coast of peninsular Malaysia and Thailand . This vessel is also fitted with Converterm DP system, with Tautwire also as Reference, apart from DGPS, Cyscan and Sonardyne HPR. I have been also on a trip on board another vessel from the same fleet, IDS Darussalam, as DP Captain. The vessel was deployed for ROV support forTurret Mooring operations of Bumi Armada FPSO in Vietnam waters. I was also on board a vessel chartered by the Company, as SDPO / DP Captain.

Normal responsibilities as Master of DP/PSV Halul 27 carrying out Platform Supply Vessel duties for the charterer Qatar Gas, based in Ras Laffan.  Being a new-built vessel fitted with SDP 11 DP system, I was responsible to conduct various Marine and DP Trials, draft the Vessel specific DP Operations Manual and putting in place various check-lists and documentations. I was reporting directly to the Operations Manager.

Company: NOR Offshore, Singapore

This was a stop-gap assignment as Master of DP2 Construction Support Vessel Nor Spring chartered to Mcdermott and deployed off Kakinada on India East Coast. The vessel was fitted with Kongsberg Kpos 2 DP System along with DGPS, HPR and Fanbeam References. The vessel was deployed between a moored Barge and a Production Platform under construction. I have been complimented by the Company’s operations Manager whom I was reporting directly, for being able to independently handle the vessel with no time available for familiarization of the vessel.

I was employed as visiting Faculty at Sir Derek Bibby DP Centre in Mumbai. During this period, I was reporting to the Director, Training and was responsible for imparting Class Room Instructions and Simulator Training to the DP trainees of DP Induction and DP Simulator Courses. The Centre is equipped with both Kongsberg kPos2 and Alstom ADP21 Systems.

I was a Commissioned Officer in the Indian Navy, specialized in Hydrographic Survey. Almost 4 1/2 years out of a total Naval Service of 22 years were spent for training in various disciplines such as Marine Mechanical & Electrical Engineering, Seamanship, Navigation, Hydrographic Survey, Communication, Ship-handling, Diving, Helicopter Control, Meteorology, Personnel/Financial/Material Management, Administration, Law, Damage Control & Firefighting, Instructor Training, Computers and other Navy-related subjects such as Gunnery, Anti-submarine warfare, Submarines and Aviation. Immense experience was gathered during the various appointments held, maximum period ashore being spent in Computer centers, particularly Naval Dockyard, Material Organisation and other Training Establishments. I was formally trained in System Analysis, COBOL, UNIX & C and DOS. As a Hydrographer, I got the chance to work on various Survey equipments such as Theodolite, Distomat, Tellurometer, Hifix, Trisponder, Survey Tracking System, Automatic Data Logging System, Sidescan Sonar, Salinometer, Bathythermograph, Sound Velocity Probe, Current Meters, variety of Echo Sounders and Navigational Equipments. Also, I got ample chance to handle survey-ships & crafts in different sea states at near perfect precision during the 8 years of sea appointments during this period. I have been also trained in Training Techniques and was appointed to Two Training Establishments of the Navy and a Training Ship of the Indian Coast Guard.
